in a dream I just had, my dad was showing me a pendant he had made for my Oma's birthday. it looked like a Turkish lantern with lots of ornate latticework, made out of something tinny. the top was conical and "see, it's your grandfather's wedding ring." the gold band was secured to the top with a barbell going through it like the clasps on some necklaces, and attached to THAT was a knobby round piece with a bunch of insignia-d facets- like a 20-sided geodesic dreidel. THAT unscrewed. one could hide, I dunno, a baby tooth in there or something.
"this is amazing" I say in the dream. "she'll love it."
I'm holding it, appreciating all the intricacies, and it starts to change. the lantern becomes smoothly sided and white, a piece of glowing lucite. each side has something cute, like a miniature calendar set to a significant date in her past. as i'm turning it in my hands, the sides get increasingly elaborate. on another side there's a tiny painting of my mom as a kid. and on another side, there are portraits of all of us, me and my mom
making faces, my grandparents smiling- a slideshow, constantly changing, glowing from the cube. my grandfather's ring is still adhered to the top.
my grandparents died a few years ago.
I quickly, clumsily tried to draw what I could remember.
